Hello lovelies! Today I’m sharing with you some fashion rules that I personally believe can & should be broken with style. (; xx
Rule #1: Don’t wear white after labor day. I can’t believe there is a rule like this in the fashion world. If you want to incorporate white into some fall or winter outfits, GO AHEAD. Don’t let a makes-no-sense-when-you-think-about-it rule like this stop you. White fashion pieces look beautiful in the fall and winter, especially when paired with warm, neutral tones, such as biege, caramel, or burgundy, or with more vivid colored clothing pieces, such as black.
Rule #2 Designer purses are a fashionista essential. I know this depends on person to person, but many people seem to feel that a designer purse (or other designer items) are oh-so necessary for the everyday fashion fangirl. Actually, if you find a handbag elsewhere, say even while thrift shopping that you like, then definitely go with that. #noneedtobebrokeandboujee
Rule #3: Don’t wear two metals together in one outfit. A delicate rosegold necklace paired with silver hoops could totally look sophisticated and chic together, and obviously those are two different metal tones. Don’t be afraid to mix metals when it comes to jewelry or accessories, but instead, just focus on blending those different metallic tones together along with an outfit and you’ll be looking uniquely gorgeous. 😉
Rule #4: Short women can’t wear maxi skirts or dresses. Wearing a maxi skirt is not going to unfavorably accentuate your height as many seem to believe-in my opinion, the maxi style can actually be used to enhance the height of a shorter person. Choose a high waisted maxi skirt or dress that gathers at the waist or higher- this will help to emphasize your leg length in a flattering way due to the long train of the skirt or dress.
Rule #5: Your wardrobe and outfits need to include only one particular fashion style type. While its not unusual for many people to have one style in particular they adhere to most of the time (say grungy, girly, sophisticated, etc.) there are also many others who have several styles they are attracted to and like to wear. For myself, I’m an odd mix of grungy, girly and chic. It can be confusing to have a couple (often very different) styles you like instead of just one, but remember its totally fine to be eclectic. You can combine the styles you like into one outfit, or wear entirely different outfits from one day to the next. As an example, I wore an oversized black hoodie and jeggings along with sneakers recently (it was cold outside for a July day) which was basically screaming “grungy.” But pairing the outfit with a choker and burgundy purse made it a mix of chic and grungy at once, expressing two of my fav styles together.

#brokeandboujee LOL Nice job. How do you feel about wearing Black with Brown? I know that’s a “rule” too. Hahaha. Curious to know whatchya think 🙂

Haha thanks 😄 I think that look can be pulled off, and it looks best when the black is the more vivid/pigmented color in the outfit while the brown is more neutralized tone…although that’s just my opinion and I may be biased bc I love black heh. xoxo

Yes!! Agreed. The brown should be neutralized. I agree with your opinion 🙂 You’re very welcome by the way.

I love rules number three as well as well as five. There should be no rules to fashion.

Right?? I know some people may have a different view but I believe fashion is a way of self expression and also an art…which means many of these fashion rules aren’t even relevant or necessary for most of us. Thanks for reading gorgeous 😘

I really like how you included in your list the fact that short girls can wear maxi dresses or skirts. Begin short, I dislike limiting myself to items that are meant to be for taller individuals. Thanks for bringing that to light!! Great post.

Aww thank you so much! I’ve been pretty short most of my life, so I totally get you there, I don’t think height should limit who was what. Thanks for reading (:

I feel like you should be able to wear what ever you want! I feel like companies only tell us something is ‘wrong’ becuase they want you to buy the latest new item! I wrote a blog post on how to be your authentic self if you are interested!- https://philippascholz.wordpress.com/2017/09/18/are-you-being-your-authentic-self/

That’s really true! Its sad how so many of us can get wrapped in being trendy consumers instead of just choosing what we authentically like instead. xxx
